Workplace investigations rarely follow a straight Workplace investigations rarely follow a straight line. They move through human emotion, power, and responsibility.

In his latest article, Ted shares how clarity and fairness require steady judgment and genuine listening.

In the workplace, every leadership decision matters, from handling executive complaints to protecting psychological safety.

At SWL, we bring that same discipline to every investigation.

Empathy and structure guide our process, helping people feel safe to speak and organizations to respond with integrity.

On October 16, we honored a milestone in Canadian On October 16, we honored a milestone in Canadian history: the day women were legally recognized as persons.

At the Garden of Even – Persons Day event, hosted with Kadie Ward Philp, we celebrated through art, storytelling, and dialogue.

The theme of this year’s event, “Belonging”, carried deep meaning. It reminded us that inclusion is not a destination but a continuous act of recognition - of self, of others, and of our shared humanity.
Our own Samantha Seabrook delivered a keynote that resonated with everyone in the room: “Our human story is the story of belonging”.

May we carry this truth into our workplaces, our communities, and our daily interactions, expanding the circle, one conversation at a time.

When organizations entrust someone to investigate When organizations entrust someone to investigate sensitive workplace matters, they are tasking them with more than just fact-finding.

Investigators must safeguard trust, and ensure compliance.

An investigator with both in-house HR and law firm experience offers the best of both worlds: A deep understanding of people and workplaces.

Rigorous legal analysis, critical thinking, and risk management.

It’s this rare combination that makes an investigator help organizations move forward stronger.

Having someone with both HR leadership and legal experience isn’t just an advantage, it’s a game changer.
